A decaying snow shower at Mt Macedon looking north from the
summit. The shower was a very low topped feature and as the shower decayed stratocu formed
near to the original top, not an unusual feature in cold air showers. The snow line was
about 550m on this evening. |

Sometimes you can be lucky with weather, an
unexpected snowfall to low levels near Woodend on 30/7/03 provided an oportunity to gain
some 'special' photographs. The number of weather 'elements' in this view are remarkable.
The valley shows a farm that extends to the tree line on the northern slopes of Mt Macedon
central Victoria. In the bottom field the sun is shining, the middle field has rain and
then a progresion to sleet and finally snow in the top field. All this in a distance of
about one kilometre. In one lucky shot we see sun, rain, rainbow. sleet, snow and fog. The
snow depth in the top paddock was about 3 cm - the change from snow covered fields to
grass occured over a distance of about 200m and an elevation change of about 50m. The
tempaerature at the bottom field was 2.1c and at the top field +0.6c . |

Hidden under 2cm of snow at Mt
Macedon was a layer of ice making driving a car very interesting, it appears that the
surface layer of water from rain had frozen prior to the arrival of snow |
 Snow line at
Daylesford. A cold outbreak on Friday 25/7/03 brought snow lines down to 700m
across the central ranges of Victoria. At levels of 600m the snow line could be seen just
100m above ground level. |
