An interesting photo of the affects of salt nuclei on the setting sun taken on the 7/7/02 just prior to sunset. The very prominent milky haze arrived after the passage of a strong frontal line associated with a small vigorous low passing through Bas Strait, this system resulted in high winds in excess of 100kph over the ocean to the west of Tasmania and through Bass Strait (120kph+ Wilson's Prom). This set up appears to have sent large amounts of microscopic salt particles into the lower atmosphere which then spread to coastal areas of Victoria and nearby hinterland regions . The result was, a distortion to the setting sun making it appear larger...due to scattering of the solar light,,...it was an impressive sight!.... Clyve Herbert 2002 |
