A study of a cold air Cumulonimbus over Bass Strait, taken from Barwon Heads looking south on Saturday 20th July 2002. What I find interesting is the number of processes going on here: first the falling snow descending from the upper parts of the CB and then reaching the melt level, after the snow melts to rain a rainbow is generated below the melt line. The upper parts of the anvil area still rising even though the whole of top is glaciated, (typical of cold air). After another five minutes only the falling snow was left (orphan anvil). I like this picture showing the sea and sky together. Clyve Herbert 2002 |
