Taken at 11.30 from my front porch looking ESE. These were the initial Congestus towers that shot up very quickly. In half an hour, the sky was full of rapidly building Congestus in an arc from North - ESE. |
Taken at 1315 looking East from the Wandong on-ramp to the freeway. Note the cell at the left. This cell was to develop the overshoot, and is the subject of the remaining pics. |
The cell referred to in the previous pic, taken using the zoom at 1320hrs (we were between Wandong and Wallan). Note the elongated anvil and updraft on the left hand edge of the anvil. |
The same cell, using more zoom, taken at 1325hrs from Beveridge. |
This cell is really going places by now! Note the beginning of the overshoot. Taken at 1335 approaching Craigieburn. Note also the mountain ridge in the bottom right hand corner of the pic. This is the Flowerdale area. You will see Pretty Sally overlooking Wallan directly behind the pylons. This whole area between Pretty Sally and the mountain ridge to the east, is referred to as "Kilmore Gap" in Airservices Australia met reports. |

The overshoot grows.... |
And grows! Look at Kilmore Gap now, to get an idea of the scale of the cell (Its sheer size) Taken approaching the freeway overpass at Craigieburn. This cell was somewhere near Euroa; at least 30-40 klms north-east of Seymour! |
The overshoot continues to grow, and now has a rounded top. This pic was taken from Somerton at 1340-1345. |
