Melbourne's BIG Storm -
observations from Martin Ledwich Radar loop - large image but worth the wait!! Synoptic analysis - 4pm 2nd December Synoptic analysis - 10pm 2nd December Melbourne sounding 10pm 2nd December Australian satellite imagery - loop Laurier Williams' event report on the Australian Weather News site David Simpson's report of this day on the Stormplanet site Ern Mainka's Lightning Imagery Selected radar image sof the storm - taken at 1520hrs 2 Dec 2003, just prior to the storm hitting Lilydale The RHI interpolated image is straight through the storm and clearly indicates significant overhang, which is indicative of thunderstorm organisation and a huge updraft. This image also shows 50dBZ+ returns to 10km. (LH) - the PPI interpolated image is at 1.2 degrees
elevation from Laverton radar and has had some of the clutter and lower reflectivity
